We restarted Apple Day in 2011 to celebrate our rich heritage of fruit growing and the key role of the Long Ashton Research Station (1903-2003) which was a national centre of research and development around apples. Ribena was invented there, as a government initiative to encourage vitamin intake amongst children.
Apple Day took place at the Community Centre, normally the first Sunday in October, apple pressing, café, live music, demonstrations, children’s activities and much more. The Coronavirus pandemic stopped the 2020 event and the team moved on to other things, but we'd welcome anyone wanting to take over the event for future years!
